While words can mislead, the body does not.
We are seeking moving images of moving bodies — works in which gesture, presence, and physicality communicate within public space.

The Onishi Art Festival invites submissions of short performance videos for a site-specific screening programme during the 2026 festival in Onishi, Japan.

We welcome unconventional works that approach film as a living medium — pieces that blur boundaries, resist easy categorisation, and challenge established forms. We are particularly interested in works situated at the intersection of body and landscape, ritual and image, intimacy and environment.

Selected videos will be screened within the historic townscape of Onishi, a rural town in Gunma Prefecture shaped by myth, craft traditions, and an expanding international arts community. The setting is intentionally unconventional; we believe that new contexts generate new ways of seeing and experiencing.

This programme is open to a wide audience — from dance professionals to first-time viewers, from young people to long-time residents — united by curiosity and a willingness to explore new artistic ground together.
